Heat Wave incoming! Don’t get heat stroke!

Why do we have heat stroke?
High temperature and dampness in the environment with poor air circulation exhausts the vital Qi and disrupt the cooling mechanism in the body.

Symptoms of heat stroke:
•    Body temperature of 40°C and above
•    Profuse sweating
•    Nausea, vomiting
•    Dizziness
•    Inability to focus
•    Flushed and dry skin
•    Heart palpitation
*Seek professional help when critical symptoms like fainting, muscle spasms, shaking occurs.

What to do if you have heat stroke:
4 Dos:
1.    Get to a shady and cooling place
2.    Cool off by spraying the body with cool water 
3.    Place ice covered with cloth to the forehead, neck, armpits and groin
4.    Rehydrate with water and electrolytes such as: sports drinks, coconut water
3 Don’ts:
1.    Don’t use alcohol wipes to cool off
2.    Don’t force the unconscious to drink water
3.    Don’t take medication without professional advice

Food that clears heat and relief heat stroke
•    Mung Beans
•    Lotus seeds
•    Celery
•    Lemon
•    Melons: Bittergourd, cucumber, watermelon, Luffa
•    Teas: Chrysanthemum tea, green tea, Jiang Huo Tea, mint tea

Mung Bean soup with lotus seeds and lily bulbs
Ingredients:
•    Mung Beans - 100g
•    Lotus seeds - 30g
•    Lily Bulbs - 20g
•    Honey Rock Sugar - Appropriate amount
•    Water - Appropriate amount
Preparation:
1.    Wash and soak Mung beans for 30 mins
2.    Wash and soak lotus seeds and lily bulbs for 1 hour
3.    Drain mung beans and place into pot and fill with appropriate amount of fresh water
4.    Cook with high heat until boiling then turn small heat to cook for 30 mins
5.    Add in drained lily bulbs and lotus seeds, continue to cook for 30 mins
6.    Add in appropriate amount of honey rock sugar, cook until sugar is dissolved.
Not suitable for:
•    Individuals with poor digestive system
•    Ladies on their menstruating cycle
