Honey-A Staple Food since Centuries

Most of the household own at least a bottle of honey nowadays. It is believed to soothe sore throats when one gets sick. According to the Archaeology of Beekeeping, humans began to look for honey at least 8000 years ago, being an ancient activity. The ancient Egyptians used honey as a sweetener; the Romans used honey to heal wounds after battles; the Greeks made honey cakes as an offering to their gods.

How is Honey Formed?

Well, it starts from flower nectar that is collected by bees. Then, it is naturally broken down into simple sugars and stored in honeycombs. The unique design of the honeycomb with constant fanning by the bees’ wings causes evaporation to take place. Thus, this creates the thick and sweet liquid that we know as honey.

If you realise that the honey has crystallised, you may de-crystallise it by placing the opened jar in warm water, stir it until the granules dissolve.

Besides consuming honey, it is widely used as beauty care for the ladies. With its anti-bacterial properties, honey is an excellent cleanser for acne-prone skin. But how? You may apply some raw honey to the affected area and have it rinse off after 15 minutes! Besides that, honey prevents bumps and boils caused by shaving. Just apply some ra honey immediately after shaving and rinse off after 10 to 15 minutes.

One of the Top Home Remedies

Here’s some remedies that you can start with the use of honey:

  • Weight loss: 1 teaspoon of honey + ½ teaspoon of cinnamon
  • Sore throat: 2 teaspoons of honey + 1 teaspoon of lemon juice
  • Sleeping: 1 to 2 teaspoons of honey before heading to bed
  • Cough: 8 teaspoons of honey + 4 teaspoons of lemon juice [consume 1 teaspoon when required]
  • Hair mask (for oily hair): 2 tablespoons of honey + 1 egg yolk

Of course, the home remedies are endless with the goodness of honey! As long as it benefits human, why don’t you give it a try? However, remember to not let babies below age of one consume honey as they don’t have enough immunity for proper protection!
