Wish to lose weight, but can’t seem to?
Understand your body type from the TCM perspective and lose weight effectively
Spleen deficiency and dampness retention (Water retention type)
• Mostly seen in office workers, body has poor circulation due to long-term sitting or loves to drink cold drinks. The water metabolism in the body becomes weaker as the water in the body stays longer, causing water retention or weight gain.
How to improve:
• Change eating habits such as having more Chinese yam, or Fuling, or take TCM herbs to strengthen the spleen and remove dampness. Further boost the weight losing process by adding in some exercises such as: jogging, Yoga, or swimming
Blood and Qi stagnation (Stress type)
• Often seen in chronically stressed or emotionally unstable individuals, this behaviour involves uncontrolled eating or drinking as a coping mechanism. This habit leads to irregularities in bodily functions, thus easily increases weight, and may cause some menstruation problem for women.
How to improve:
• Recommend relaxing and maintaining good mental health, control eating habits with appropriate food intake and eating less raw, cold and oily food etc.
Qi and blood deficiency (Deficiency type)
• Mostly seen in people with poor body constitution. May present symptoms such as fatigue, pale face, poor memory, shortness of breath etc.
How to improve:
• Recommend taking food that can replenish blood and Qi, such as Red dates, Goji berries etc. Have proper mealtimes and with appropriate portions. Pair up with some light exercises like jump rope, cycling etc. Due to poor physical strength, vigorous exercise routines are not suitable for this body type, as it may exhaust the little Qi and blood they have left.
